Have you ever thought about how you can meet your pet’s needs or why that matters for successful training?

When your pet’s needs are met, they are in a better position to maximize their learning!

I am diving into why this is important during training sessions along with some of my best tips for successful training in this episode.

From an acronym that I think is important to remember to the common misconceptions that I see and the reinforcers I like to use, you will learn what to do and what not to do to successfully train your pet.

What We Cover in Today’s Episode

  • Making sure that your pet can functionally exist

  • The acronym HALT - hungry, angry, lonely, and tired

  • The misconception that your pet needs to be hungry to work with you

  • The value of having more than one reinforcer

  • What happens when your pet is angry, stressed, or tired

  • How to make sure that you are showing up effectively

Remember, it is important that you are in a calm headspace when you are training your pet, so your needs need to be met too! Your pet is looking for you to lead the way, and you can’t do that when you are not fully present.

Training is about connection, communication, and creating a team environment where you and your pet work together on a daily basis to live your lives together. I hope this episode has provided you with some tips to do that!
