Did you know that you have a manual for your pet? Well, you do, and I think you should rewrite it.

Manuals tell us how things in our lives work and function. We create manuals in our heads for all kinds of things. We have ideas about how things should work or behave, and that includes our pets.

These manuals that we create in our heads can both help and hinder us. Sometimes we have expectations for our pets that aren’t accurate or appropriate for them. They might not know what expectations we have for them, so they can’t live up to them.

This episode will teach you how to rewrite the manual for your pet to close the gaps in your training plan and account for any expectations that you might not even realize you had.

What We Cover in Today’s Episode

  • What a manual is

  • The purpose of a manual

  • How we create manuals in our brains

  • Why our brains love to conserve energy

  • Why we gravitate towards information that fits with the manual (ideas) that we already have

  • Handling behavior from your pets that falls outside your expectations

  • Identifying the blind spots in your training plan

  • Thinking about why you interpret things in certain ways

I hope this helps you think about your training plan in a different way. I want you to think about what your manual is telling you about your pet. If it’s giving you some inaccurate information, what are you going to do about it?

If you’re interested in working with me directly, I offer a free consultation call where we can talk about your pet's behavior right now, where you’d like it to be, and how I would help you achieve those goals. Go to www.StephanieBeeson.com/behavioralmedicine to find out more.
